Reinterpreted Myth

There is nothing around the location of this project, only black ground. Only Hrossaborg, which rises above the vast land, is a unique and important reference element. Therefore, this project started from the question of how to utilize Hrossaborg as a spatial element and reference it in design.

Hrossaborg was a closed crater, but one side opened due to the flow of water. Firstly, This project built a building on the collapsed side to reconnect the ring shape of the crater, so that it could naturally embrace the inside like a treasure in a bowl-like shape. A perfect circle was drawn inside the nest created in this way. This perfect circle, as if created by God, follows the shape of the bumpy crater and contrasts with it. If the crater was a world that already existed, the newly drawn circle is a newly created world, and the two contrast and complement each other so that they can exist.

Visitors move along this created shape and are gradually drawn into the crater. Visitors who come from the outside world across the bridge keep their horses in the stable. The stables are located at the link that makes the crater bowl-shaped. People can leave their horses in the stables and climb up the stairs to the crater, or they can cross the rest of the bridge to the accommodation. Those heading to the accommodation slowly walk around, taking in the magnificent surroundings until they reach the accommodation.

The inner world of the accommodation building is circular, so that the view is visible from everywhere, which makes people fully aware that they are inside Hrossaborg. And each room reflects a different view. The center of the roof of the accommodation building is a skylight, allowing people to see the outside sky from inside, and when viewed from outside, the light that comes through this gap will appear as a bright ring in the center of the crater at night. The center of the circle is where the fire is lit, and this becomes a space where people can gather and socialize under the stars at night.

The project was built with a wooden structure in mind, considering sustainability and environmental friendliness. This wooden structure minimizes the energy input for construction and materials, and allows for the minimum amount of effort required for later demolition. The 1.5 meter rise from the ground is a choice to respond to the moisture in the center of the crater and to minimize damage to the ground, preserving the natural environment as much as possible.

This accommodation will offer a new experience to visitors to Hrossaborg. Visitors who come from the outside world on horseback will experience crossing the bridge and entering the inner world. It is like crossing the Bifrost Bridge from Midgard, the world of humans, to Asgard, the world of the gods, where rest awaits.
